WWII drama The Heavy Water War is coming to More4 in 2015
Heavy Water War tells the true story of the Allies’ attempts to prevent the Nazis from developing an atomic bomb. The miniseries begins in 1933 and covers several key events over the next decade, including a daring mission in 1943 by Norwegian saboteurs to destroy the German factory in the mountains of Norway.
The Norwegian-Danish-British co-production cost around £ 6million to produce and stars Espen Kloumann Høiner, German actor Christoph Bach and Dennis Storhøi in the lead roles and Public Enemies actress and former Brookside star Anna Friel in the supporting cast.
Heavy Water War, originally known in Norway as Kampen om tungtvannet, received critical acclaim when it first aired on Norwegian TV in January. The first episodes were watched by a record-breaking 1.25 million viewers when they premiered on NRK earlier this year.
More4’s parent company, Channel 4, has been competing with BBC Four and Sky Arts for the acquisition of foreign language films and TV shows in recent years. Heavy Water War is the latest drama of its kind to be released following a series that includes the political thriller Mamon and The Revenant.
More4 now has an impressive roster of imported shows, which includes popular legal and political drama The Good Wife, musical drama Nashville, Shameless USA and the original Showtime Masters of Sex series. Heavy Water War will also debut on the channel in 2015.
