Red Bluff storefront is targeted, Proud Boys sticker is placed on BLM sign
RED BLUFF, Calif .– A Red Bluff business owner is mad after discovering a Proud Boys sticker outside his window that displays his Black Lives Matter sign.
Stroll through the Wild Oak store in Red Bluff and you’ll find tie-dye clothing, guitars, and even old vinyl records.
“My wife and I bought Wild Oak in 2006, so we’ve been here for 15 years now,” said Wild Oak owner Doug Kelly.
And in those 15 years, Kelly said he’s never seen anything like it.
“Probably on Monday morning, someone drew paintballs at our windows,” Kelly explained, “and put a Proud Boys sticker on our Black Lives Matter (BLM) sign here in the window.”
Kelly feels it was a message.
“It’s more about intimidation and threats,” Kelly said. “As far as I know we were the only ones targeted, we are a little different from the rest of the city.”
Kelly admits that since joining BLM a year ago he has lost business, but for the folks who stay, they say they fully support this business.
“This is a quality, long-term store,” said customer Pat Johnston. “The store is always nice, always respectful.”
“We love the people at Red Bluff who support us. We have to say something when we see something wrong,” Kelly said.
Kelly reported the incident to the Red Bluff Police Department, but finding the culprit could be difficult as her cameras failed to pick up anything.
But after this incident, he will change things.
“We’re going to reposition one or two of the cameras and try to cover the sidewalk outside the store here,” Kelly said.
Action News Now has contacted the Jefferson State Group since the group’s logo was on the sticker, but they declined to speak to us.
“We take vandalism very seriously. It does not appear that any damage has been done, so this incident is not considered vandalism. The owner also does not believe it was a crime. hateful so we will be watching the location but no further action will be taken. ”Red Bluff Police Sgt. Ruben Murgia.
