Pregnancies induced by Covid and STIs prompt BLM to relaunch Manyuchi Premium condoms | Malawi Nyassa Times
Banja La Mtsogolo (BLM) – one of the leading nongovernmental providers of sexual and reproductive health care in Malawi – has relaunched the “contemporary high-end” Manyuchi Premium condoms, a product which the organization says “provides double protection against sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and unwanted pregnancies ”.
The relaunch took place at BLM’s head office in Lilongwe on Wednesday.
A single pack of Manyuchi Premium condoms contains three “high quality” condoms; ultra-thin, which “offers maximum protection against STIs and unwanted pregnancy while providing an unearthly sex sensation” and a ribbed and studded condom to “suit taste and provide super maximum double protection”.
BLM‘s social marketing manager Michael Kwenda said the relaunch of the product, which is different from other regular and well-known Manyuchi condoms, follows high cases of teenage pregnancies and STIs recorded during the pandemic. of Covid-19, mainly among young people. in colleges and universities.
Malawi has seen two school closures since the pandemic was declared, developments which have left thousands of schoolchildren inactive and ultimately leading most of them to early sex and marriages. .
Kwenda said that by releasing the Manyuchi Premium condoms, BLM complements the government’s efforts to ensure that in the age of Covid, no one is left behind in accessing sexual and reproductive health care.
“The revelations of high cases of pregnancies and STIs should make us all vicariously shake our heads in shame. We haven’t done enough to protect our young people. We have not done enough to protect the future of this country for these young people. We have created two more pandemics as part of the Covid-19 pandemic. We have created pandemics of unwanted pregnancies and STIs, ”Kwenda said.
Kwenda added that the relaunch of Manyuchi Premium condoms also follows the demand for high quality but affordable premium condoms in the market.
“Most people, especially young people, couldn’t afford these other high-end condoms. Our product is of the highest quality and compliant with standards, yet affordable and accessible to anyone, everywhere; large supermarkets, bottle shops, pharmacies, gas stations and other retail outlets. Our consideration goes to the young people so that they can buy these condoms and stay protected, ”Kwenda said.
