The Plaid Adder, Terror of the Internet and Scourge of Fools

The Plaid Adder slithered into existence circa 1993, when I finally got an email account and joined my first electronic community (a discussion list for Star Trek fans). Since my entire family has nicknames but I don't, I decided that it was my turn. Having been an avid fan of the British TV show Blackadder for many years, I wanted to be some kind of adder. After trying out, and rejecting, such appellations as "The Pink Adder" and "The Navy Blue Adder," I settled on "The Plaid Adder" because I liked the internal rhyme. I do not actually wear a lot of plaid, nor am I Scottish. Nor, indeed, am I a poisonous reptile, although I suppose that really depends on who you ask. 10 years later, I have 'published' so much stuff on the web under this name that I am now, apparently, stuck with it for life.

I hang onto the pseudonym primarily because it is useful in separating my online life from my real life. I have a real name, of course, by which people know me in real life. You-all can just call me Plaidder.
